A year of Clachan Cottage

Self Catering Cottage, Isle of Mull

It’s been everything and more that we hoped it would be. Running a self catering cottage on Mull is not always easy; it will never make you rich but the rewards are worth every bit of effort that goes into it.

Bookings took off straight away and as such we are pretty much fully booked for 2018 now, with 2019 bookings already trickling in. The best part of Clachan Cottage is getting to know the people who stay there – even if just by email communication. Like me, the reasons for being loch side in a cosy little cottage, is so you can watch the wildlife that surrounds you and to find peace and tranquility. We have enjoyed reading everyone’s Visitor Book entries and their wonderful wildlife sightings. We made the decision early on to make the cottage dog friendly. We are quite strict on the do’s and don’ts for doggies, but the cottage is always well cared for by our guests.

Loch Cuin Dervaig Mull

We spent a week in our first summer redecorating and putting in a few new touches. A smart tv, dishwasher and a few new home comforts transformed the feel of the place. We will continue to invest in the cottage and keep it homely and well equipped. A special thank you to my brother Simon and nephew, Alex for their hard work last October.

Our island neighbours are just wonderful and we’ve enjoyed getting to know everyone in Dervaig and further afield on the island. Both Paula and Michelle are wonderful housekeepers, with Michelle now looking after the cottage full time.

Lastly, the biggest thanks to all of the people who have booked the cottage and supported us in our first year. It’s been lovely getting to know you all. Happy wildlife watching!
