We have now owned Clachan Cottage, here on the Isle of Mull for just over 6 months. It’s been everything and more that we hoped it would be. Running a self catering cottage is not easy, it will never make you rich but the rewards are worth every bit of effort that goes into it.
Bookings took off straight away and as such we are pretty much fully booked for 2018 now. The best part of Clachan Cottage is getting to know the people who stay there – even if just by email communication. Like me, the reasons for being loch side in a cosy little cottage, is so you can watch the wildlife that surrounds you. We have enjoyed reading everyones Visitor Book entries with the wonderful wildlife sightings.
We spent a week in August redecorating and putting in a few new touches. A smart tv, dishwasher and a few new home comforts transformed the feel of the place. We will continue to invest in the cottage and keep it homely and well equipped. A special thank you to my brother Simon and nephew, Alex for their muscle and graft!
A huge thank you to Paula, our amazing housekeeper who is quite simply, brilliant. Her homemade jam, PIPS, is well received by all our guests.
Our island neighbours are just wonderful and we’ve enjoyed getting to know everyone in Dervaig and further afield on the island.
The latest offering to Clachan Cottage is the Residential Wildlife Filmmaking Courses in September and October 2018. If you’re interested, drop me a line. It will be a great week to watch and film wildlife on the island, all based at Clachan Cottage with a log fire and home cooked meals. My colleague, John will be co running the courses. As an award winning BBC cameraman, you’ll be in good hands. No previous experience required, just a love for nature and capturing footage. Use your own DSLR or use our professional cameras.
Thank you to Jess for the stunning sunset image which she took outside the cottage when she stayed earlier this year.
And lastly, the biggest thanks to all of the people who have booked the cottage and supported us. It’s been lovely getting to know you all. Happy wildlife watching!
